The Oldest View is a mystery thriller series that YouTuber and filmmaker Kane Parsons (Kane Pixels) debuted in March 2023, an expansion of the Backrooms universe he had been building. Its setting is the Valley View Center mall in Dallas, Texas — a real place, completely demolished in May 2023. A twenty-year-old named Wyatt ventures in to uncover the mall’s secrets, and a giant rolling puppet pursues him through the underground tunnels and concrete stairs.
What the story holds onto is liminality, impermanence and memory. A vanished place survives only inside the footage, turned into a maze, and the pursuer that rolls indifferently through it has neither reason nor expression. That it is never explained why it hunts places it in the same register as our world’s sealed dread.
