Samsin Halmeoni is the goddess of pregnancy, childbirth, and a child’s fate in Korean Muism and the household (Gasin) faith. Her name carries her role — "sam" for conception, "shin" for goddess, "halmeoni" for grandmother — and she was honored as a protector enshrined in the warmest room of the home.
She is a triple goddess bound to the number three, and her cult is held especially strongly on Jeju Island. A child is believed to remain under her care from birth until the seventh year, after which guardianship passes to the Seven Stars deity, Chilseong.
