The Rake is a being created collectively by forum users around 2005. Pale and gaunt, somewhere between human and dog, it is said to crawl on all fours and, by night, intrude into homes to stare at or attack sleeping people. Notably, its credibility was manufactured from the start by deliberately seeding fake sightings and forged old records.
This is what makes the Rake interesting. It is a case in which the very credibility of a tale is artificially assembled, with seemingly factual records planted on purpose to blur what is true. It reveals that records and testimony can be not a guarantee of truth but an instrument of fabrication.
