Monster of the Week is an urban-fantasy horror tabletop role-playing game by Michael Sands, first published in 2012 and revised by Evil Hat Productions in 2015. It draws on “villain of the week” shows such as Buffy, Supernatural and The X-Files. A Powered by the Apocalypse game with a light ruleset, it casts one player as the Keeper of monsters and mysteries while the others play hunters, rolling two six-sided dice when prompted.
Its “fiction-first” design puts story ahead of rules, so each session runs on encountering and investigating the unknown. That episodic frame — the unknown intruding again and again through the everyday — is genre-flexible, yet it shares the rhythm of recurring uncanniness that our world turns on.
