1937年、東海の孤立した無線電信所。雑音のなかで捉えた一通の電文が、まだ来ぬ日付と、どの名簿にもない呼出符号を帯びている。
A remote wireless station on the East Sea. On night watch, the operator finds that a dispatch caught in the receiver was transmitted on a date that has not yet come.
The operator closes the Bureau register and opens one for the empty-frequency calls alone. Breaking his predecessor’s one rule, he strikes the key and answers for the first time.
As the operator answers night after night, the dispatches dated tomorrow are going out in his own hand. He understands that the call the next operator will receive from a callsign on no register is himself.
