The Star Vampire originates in Robert Bloch's "The Shambler from the Stars," published in the September 1935 issue of Weird Tales. Normally invisible, the creature slowly becomes more and more visible until its monstrous form is fully revealed as it feeds on blood.
The entity is summoned by reading an invocation from "De Vermis Mysteriis," a forbidden tome written in Latin by the Belgian sorcerer Ludvig Prinn, which refers to it as one of the invisible "star-sent servants." After lifting its victim into the air and draining the blood, it retreats back into the nameless cosmic gulfs whence it came.
