The Imugi is a giant serpent that completed its thousand years yet failed to ascend as a dragon. To become a dragon it must obtain a wish-granting orb or meet set conditions, but it is pictured dwelling in the water, unable to cross that final threshold.
Its core is a thwarted transformation — the han of something left unfinished. Less a threat than the shape of longing frozen forever just short of completion, the Imugi finds its tragic tension in that very arrest.
