Robert Blake, a Wisconsin writer in Providence, becomes obsessed with the derelict Starry Wisdom church on Federal Hill and breaks inside, where he finds the Shining Trapezohedron — a jewel that serves as a summoning lens for the Haunter of the Dark, an avatar of Nyarlathotep that cannot endure light.
Written as a tribute to Robert Bloch, it is one of the Mythos' richest portraits of Nyarlathotep in physical manifestation, and a masterclass in building dread through a protagonist's increasingly unreliable self-narration.
