El Silbón

Also: The Whistler

El Silbón ("The Whistler") is a legendary phantom of Venezuela, associated especially with the Los Llanos plains. A son who brutally beat his father to death was cursed by his grandfather to carry his father's bones for all eternity and to wander forever.

When his whistle sounds close there is no danger and he is far away; when it sounds distant, he is near. He wanders chiefly on rainy or humid nights, taking his revenge on drunkards and womanizers.
