Dokkaebi

도깨비

Also: Korean Goblin

The Dokkaebi is the most familiar creature of Korean oral tradition, equally apt to torment people or bring them wealth. It is often said to arise from worn objects like old brooms or pokers, and travels with motifs of wrestling matches, magic clubs, and ghostly fire.

The key is that it is a trickster whose morality is never fixed. The Dokkaebi is neither enemy nor guardian; depending on a person’s conduct and luck, it can become fortune or disaster.
