Div-e Sepid

디브에 세피드

Also: White Div · White Demon

Div-e Sepid, the White Div, is the chieftain of the demons of Mazandaran in the Persian epic Shahnameh. A being of great strength, skilled in sorcery and necromancy, he conjures a dark storm of hail, boulders and tree-trunks to shatter the army of King Kay Kavus. He then captures the king, his commanders and paladins, blinds them, and imprisons them in a dungeon.

The hero Rostam undertakes his Seven Labors to free the king, and in the end slays the White Div, using his heart and blood to cure the blindness of the captives. His pale, unearthly hide and his true nature — demon, or a foreign prince — remain contested across versions. A sealed source and a calamity overturned share a register with our world.

Ferdowsi, Shahnameh (Persian mythology).
