The Deathmoth, classified as Entity 4 in Backrooms lore, is a giant moth-like being with an extreme sexual dimorphism. Males are small and timid — sometimes kept as pets and largely herbivorous — while females are recorded as huge, hostile, and able to spray an acid that dissolves wanderers.
The heart of the horror is the polarity within a single species. That a creature bearing one name can be a harmless companion on one hand and a lethal threat on the other paralyzes judgment until you can tell which one you have met. It is a display of the Backrooms’ signature uncertainty, where appearance alone cannot screen out danger.
