The Cimmerians are Conan's people: barbarian warriors inhabiting the northern mountain land of Cimmeria, organised into clans rather than the kingdoms of civilised nations, and renowned for their ferocity and endurance.
Their god Crom is a distant, unresponsive deity who neither answers prayers nor meddles in mortal affairs. In Howard's essay "The Hyborian Age," the Cimmerians are placed among the peoples who emerge after the Cataclysm, eventually becoming ancestors of the historical Celts and Gaels.
