Chaugnar Faugn was created by Frank Belknap Long in "The Horror from the Hills" (1931). It is described as a squat, elephantine idol-like figure with a trunk that functions as a vampiric organ for draining blood.
The creature is notable for the plot conceit of being transported as a seemingly inert statue to a New York museum, where it eventually awakens. It represents an ancient and alien hunger dressed in the guise of an artifact.
