Bokrug appears in Lovecraft's "The Doom That Came to Sarnath" (1920). It is the water-lizard deity of the ancient, grey-skinned people of Ib. When the people of Sarnath slaughter the Ibbites and steal its green idol, a curse is set in motion.
On the thousandth anniversary of Sarnath's triumph, Bokrug rises from the lake and the city vanishes entirely, leaving only an overgrown marsh.
