Aphoom-Zhah was conceived by Clark Ashton Smith and further developed by Lin Carter. It rules the polar regions and appears as a cold, pale flame — visually akin to Cthugha but radiating lethal cold rather than heat.
The entity is linked to the Hyperborean cycle and is invoked as a mythological explanation for polar expeditions destroyed by inexplicable freezing cold.
