Stygia is a kingdom of the far south in Howard's Hyborian world — the paramount centre of black sorcery, with a history stretching back millennia. Its priests serve the serpent-god Set and spread dread across the Hyborian lands through mastery of poison, curse, and necromancy.
Howard evokes Stygia in terms reminiscent of ancient Egypt: pyramids, vast temples, and labyrinthine catacombs define its landscape. Conan crosses swords with Stygian sorcerers in several stories, and the kingdom embodies the older, inhuman evil lurking beneath Hyborian-Age civilisation.
