Ramsey Campbell is an English horror writer, born 4 January 1946 in Liverpool. He debuted with his first book, "The Inhabitant of the Lake and Less Welcome Tenants," published by Arkham House in 1964.
He created the Severn Valley setting as an alternative to Lovecraft's New England. Its title story introduced "The Revelations of Gla'aki," a tome of occult lore akin to Lovecraft's Necronomicon. Entities such as Daoloth also came from his hand.
He has received many honors, including the World Fantasy Award Life Award (2015) and the Bram Stoker Lifetime Achievement Award (1999). After completing "Demons by Daylight" in 1968, he evolved beyond pure Lovecraft pastiche into his own original work.
