Nodens is one of the rare "Elder Gods" who seem to stand on humanity’s side, even opposing beings like Nyarlathotep. Yet even that aid reads less as mercy than as indifferent rivalry among greater powers.
The name is in fact drawn from the ancient Celtic-Roman god Nodens, whom Lovecraft pulled into the Mythos.
