Herbert West is a coldly rational Miskatonic medical student who believes death is a mere chemical process reversible by the right reagent. To obtain fresh subjects he draws his unnamed companion-narrator into increasingly criminal schemes.
His reanimated specimens rarely regain full consciousness and prove almost uniformly violent. West is ultimately torn apart by a mob of his own undead creations.
